Audio interference from mobile/cell phone

Hello,

The subject I'm shooting is making a mobile phone call, and is causing interference with the audio (get that horrible noise, usually heard when a mobile phone is active around a speaker).

I'm trying to filter this out, but I'm starting to lose hope. Has anyone had this problem and dealt with it somehow?

regards,
Peter

If it cuts through your signal then there's no way to figure it out. It's also near impossible to filter it if the noise is inconsistent. The best you can probably do if it's inconsistent is putting a low pass and/or high pass filter to cut the worst frequencies. If it's consistent then you could use a third-party noise reduction filter, but those get expensive and can't necessarily maintain the quality of your signal if the noise is dominant.

Are there any preventative measures? I'm sure a lot of wedding videographers run into this problem.

The only preventative measure I know is to used balanced cables. There's a good explanation here: http://dplay.com/dv/balance/balance.html. But your cable chain has to be balanced all the way through to work, and I see on your profile that you use a VX2100. Aren't those basically like PD-170s without balanced audio connectors? Anyway, balanced connections (usually with XLR cables) prevent interference.
