Sorry for the title- On to the question!

Right now I edit on a PC. Premiere Pro, and After Effects Mainly. I want to get into mac editing , but at the same time I NEED a jump in performance. I want to edit HD video - mainly 720p from my JVC HD1 unit.

Currently I'm using (yes this is an older pc) AMD athlon 2400+ Barton, 1 gig of pc2700 ram, and a 128mb agp video card.

Do any of the new intel macs- mainly the macbook pro offer a good jump in speed with Final Cut Studio-

And also, I plan to use apple boot camp so that I can run windows and have access to adobe after effects, which I'm sure runs better on windows, then under emulation for mac as of right now. So will I see good boosts in speed there?

So far the Intel Macs are confined to the iMac, MacMini and MacBook Pros. No one has seen what the Intel-based replacements for the G5 PowerMacs will be like and I would be inclined to wait on doing anything much until they arrive. They are going to be machines optimised for the Pro applications.

Managing HD well will require a number of components to work together well -- hard disk, bus, memory, processor, video processing etc. -- so raw processor speed won't be the whole story I think.

I run After Effects on my G5 Power Mac and it works just fine.

I cannot answer all of your question.. but I recently puchased a new Intel Imac, i am a long time PC user..And have been editing on PC's.. I can tell you that so far i am really really impressed with how well my Imac can handle HDV footage using FCP 5.1 (universal) I was using a Centrino laptop previous to this with a firewire drive, and was only able to get a few frames a second when trying to edit HDV.. On the Mac(comparable specs to MacBookPro) it plays back the HDV in real time.. and is pretty snappy so far..
