FCP capture question

Ok, please bear with me.
I am going thru Diana Weynand's book on FCP. Here I am on chapter 9: capturing video.
Up to this point, I am about 94% great with everything. I understand NLE. I get the tools. I'm there.

But son, this capture stuff is throwing me for a loop!

Last night I captured some video... about 47 minutes worth. The problem is that it's just one giant clip. I know I could make sub-clips out of everything but that will be time consuming.

I had checked the box to make a new clip for every time card break but that didn't work. I was hoping it would do the same thing like what happened when I import in iMovie. But it didn't.

So there's my first question: How do I capture hours worth of tape and have it broken up into separate clips?

Second question: How do I go about setting in point and out points on a tape for FCP to capture specifically what I want? Say I want 'clip a' from 0:00:12 to 0:03:06 and then 'clip b' from '0:03:29 to 0:05:22.'

Any help would be greatly appreciated. In fact, I will remember you in my will!

Highlight the clip you want in your Browser and go to

Mark > DV Start/Stop Detect.
