Mix it up

working on FCP 5.0 just got a mixer (Mackie 1604-vlz Pro) can and should I put this into my system...

1.) If so, what are the benefts to doing this.

2.) How do I do this..(extra parts etc...)

Thanks as always

Without a capture card all it does is control the volume from the system. That and you can monitor the audio coming from your capture device. And that's about it.

With a capture card (that has analogue ins and not just SDI) you can control the level of the audio as it is captured. Route the deck audio thru the mixer then to the capture card.

With an audio interface you can mix multitrack audio and re-record it with the use of hardware effects devices, reverb, etc. You can also record audio using the mixer upstream from the audio interface to mix multiple microphones, control levels etc. Many pro quality audio cards and interfaces do not have their own level controls for recording or playback, relying on mixers and/or preamps upstream from their analog inputs to set levels.
