Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro

Dear friends,

A friend has edited some material in Final Cut Pro HD(current version) and I want to look at it in Final Cut Express HD(current version). Is it possible to open the timeline like this? Is it possible to save the time line (in Final Cut Pro HD) in such a way that it can be opened in Final Cut Express?

This sort of interchange used to be possible with earlier versions of Pro and Express! - but I can't see how to do it with the latest versions?

Any ideas.

Thanks for your help

Dominic

Possible import Final Cut Pro HDV movie into Final Cut Express HD?

Hello,
I have a customer who would like to edit my FCP HDV project in his Final Cut Express HD program? Is it possible and how without having to redo the capturing.

Forgive me if I repeat this question but it was not answered so I try it again.
Regards /Johan

I could be wrong becasue I don't have a copy of Final Cut Express HD only Final Cut Studio, but opening a FCP project file in express doesn't look technically possible. If express could import an EDL file from FCP, then you could always relink the sourse files both ways using a simple EDL file. But, the specs on express don't indicate that it can import EDL files.

The only thing you might be able to do is to export a QuickTime reference (make sure to check the self contained box) output file from FCP and try to open it in express. That of course would make it difficult to edit for most cuts (because the sequece is mixed down), but it would allow for a review and a few simple deletions in express.

Sorry I can't offer more ideas, but I only own one of the programs in question.

In the FCP3 and FCE days, you could open a FCP3 project in FCE. The 3-way color correction filter would also be available in FCE.
