Film Look Plug In recommendation!!
 

Hi I want to buy a Film Look Plug in for a Final Cut 5.1 computer. It is a Dual 2.7 G5 with 5GB of RAM and a FW800 500GB GRaid. I have seen and heard a lot abot Magic Bullet 2.0!, or if theres something else out there please let my Know!! Thanks!!

Ariel, please take a look at my Film Effects package for FCP. Not only is it more affordable, it has features which MB for Editors does not, and it has the best tech support in the business.

He speaks truthfully about his product. I purchased it two weeks ago and the amount of control you get to mimic film styles is incredible. The 30p HDV footage I applied the filters to is now indistiguishable from film. Every last vestige of a video look is gone. The level of image adjustment some of the filters have are not available in other filter sets costing more.

The only real advantage that Magic Bullet has is the extensive library of popular film look presets if a quick but high quality fix is what you are after. The Nattress presets are limited but you can check them out on his site. Perhaps Mr. Nattress will open up a database of donated presets. I would be happy to contribute when I get some more unique ones made.

The current plugin architecture isn't really suited to having lots of presets. Hopefully in the future this will change and I'll eagrely take that feedback on board.

As a workaround to this issue in Film Effects, I have a project that I use for presets. Everytime I make a new, interesting look, I save the effect on a short clip and title the sequence to reflect the look. It's not the quickest qay, but it gets things done.

On the other hand, the software does everything that I have ever needed to do and I highly recomend it.

Another way to make presets in FCP is to apply the filter to a clip and tweak til you're satisfied. At that point click on the top bar of the filter in the filters tab and drag it to your favorites. You can rename the favorite to reflect the settings used. The favorites stay the same for any project you already have or any new ones you start. You can then use FCP Rescue to back up your preferences and save your presets in case you do a reinstall of FCP.

That's a good plan, and then you can also save them as favourites inside FCP.

Graeme, actually, that's what I meant, drag the filter to your FCP Favorites Bin in the Effects tab of the Viewer..
