Dipping My Toe In (i)Mac Editing Waters

Hi, Everybody--

Longtime PC guy here, looking to slim down the gear in the physical sense. I have the chance for a great deal on a refurb G5 20" iMac. I'd be adding RAM and a Firewire drive. I planned to start w/Final Cut Express, as it offers everything I need for my purposes. I guess my question is: Will this iMac handle the current version of Express reasonably well? I should also mention I'm working in SD only. Many thanks!

You'll be fine. I am also running an Imac G5 20" and I maximized the ram to 2Gb and just upgraded the internal drive to 500GB. I also upgraded to a dual layer Superdrive awhile back.

Note. None of the upgrades came from Apple. I was a long time pc person also until 1.5 years ago. I have really come to appreciate OSX and its many 'little' things that make the everyday interaction more enjoyable.

Thanks very much, Greg. Love the elegance of the iMac design, just wanted to be sure the power was there as well. Appreciate it!
