Yep, LaCie. I also have the Big Desk Extreme 500GB connected via FireWire 800.

My quesion is, since the MacBook Pro has no FW800 port, has anyone found an Express Card with at least 1 (hopefully 2) FW800 ports to use with it?

Matt, have a look at this link. There are also a whole heaps of other brands on the market now, just do a Google search.

Also, for the record, the 17" Mac Book Pro does has a Firewire 800 port.

I opted for the faster driver on the MBP also. I was reading this thread to find out what external hd I should get. And then I was looking at what was available. I'm looking for something light in weight as well as on my wallet and was wondering if 5400rpm for the external drive would be ok because Lacie makes 80gig 5400rpm portable.

I always find this space very helpful.
