conecting a monitor (tv) using a camera to fcp

hello

how do i go about attaching a tv to monitor the adjustments i am making in fcp? i have an xl2. is there a way using firewire? if so what settings in fcp please?

i reckon this is pretty obvious but i am having no joy so far.

Welcome to DVinfo Ray. First, connect your monitor or TV to your XL2 and verify that you can see a good image. If not then you'll need help from someone else since I don't have an XL2 :-)

Then connect the XL2 to your Mac via firewire and go to the External Video > A/V Devices menu. Select Apple Firewire PAL (assuming you're using PAL :-)
Now choose View > External Video > All Frames. Try View > Refresh A/V Devices if you don't see anything.

If this still doesn't work then there could be something else which needs to be set on the XL2 for it to send and receive over firewire. But there also seem to be some issues with XL2's being cranky with FCP. One of our moderators is familiar with the XL2 and FCP... I'll ask him to stop by this thread.

Good luck, and let us know if this works for you.

What Boyd suggested should work ok. You have to use Boyd's instructions to get FCP to send A/V to the camera via firewire. Plugging a monitor into the composite video or s-video should mirror what the camera sees coming in via FW.
