Can FCP be used by itself to go from HDV to film?

Hi all. . .

I am considering a video/film project next summer. I am curious as to whether Final Cut Pro (5.1.1) is, by itself, sufficient to get me to a final digital version of the film to hand off for the telecine process, or is other software required along the way.

I have a Panasonic HVX200 camera and the Panny P2 Store, as well. I'll be wanting to shoot in 1080/24p. My computer is the newest MacBook Pro 17".

The question, again, is FCP capable of getting me from video to film by itself? What should the workflow look like?

Thanks so much.

Stephen

I guess, obviously more correctly, I should have said not from HDV to film but from the Panny's DVCPRO HD to film. Sorry about my lack of precision with language.

Stephen, isnt the hvx-200 a 720p camera?

Other than that I dont see much issue. Just make sure you dont shoot 30p. 30p to 24 fps film is a disaster.

"Telecine" is the process by which you convert film to video. Not the other way around.

FCP is only a small part of the entire process for a film-out, which is what you are referring to. Look at some of the articles here http://www.digitalfilmgroup.net/# and http://www.dvfilm.com/, and before you start your project, contact these guys so they can help guide you through the process to get the best results.
