fcp export web HD

I just started using my new XH_A1 after a couple years with a GL_2. I have finished my editing and exported my project as a QT which I then open in squeeze to convert to .flv_ for web viewing. Squeeze aside, I can't seem to export the project from FCP without the letterbox effect showing or a large black border around the entire thing. I have trie a lot of different settings and am feeling very HD challenged, especially after I just figured out how to do this decent with the old camera. I have seen some web HD videos on this site that fill the frame and look really nice. Can anyone recommend a starting point for a FCP>Squeeze>flash scenario. My concerns are quality first, file size second.

Thank you for any help

are you using compressor? you should be able to hit one of the check boxes that take off the letterbox.

i'm not familiar with squeeze, i just import my QT files in Flash 8 and it converts and encodes it automatically.

Mateo,

If your exported clip is destined for the web, I'd use the "export using Quicktime conversion" in Final Cut and select the H.264 codec which will give the best web-results. I'm not familiar with Squeeze but my guess it's an extra step that isn't required. FCP/H.264 will do all the work for you - and should not show the black letterboxing you're seeing now - which might be caused by the Squeeze application.

I have tried this as well and get the same results. Always a letterbox showing up. I'm going to capture some new footage and see what happens. I'm wondering if I could have fcp setup wrong? I used easy setup HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60. Not completely knowing what I'm doing I selected that since my camera says 1080i60 in the top of the frame.

Thanks,
mateo
