Macbook Pro: Firewire 400
Is the Firewire 400 port on the Macbook Pro an active (powered) or passive (non-powered) port?
An active port will blow the firewire port on my camera so I wanted to ask first before I plugged it in... |
I bought a Macbook Pro last summer, the first generation, and according to page 56 in the manual, both firewire ports (400 and 800) are powered. If you have the second generation Macbook Pro, I would check your manual under "firewire ports" ...

It's powered (6-pin). I've never seen an Apple product w/a 4-pin port before.

doesn't the 4-pin exclude the power lines, so as long as your camera is 4-pin and you connect to the Mac first (while powered), then connect to the camera (while off), you shouldn't have a problem. this is what I do with my HVX200 (the recommended procedure by Panasonic).
