Recording Multiple Video (and audio) streams
 

We recently shot a performance by a rock band with the isolated camera technique. We used 6 Sony "prosumer" mini DV camcorders, synced with a clap board and recorded 18 tracks of audio into Pro Tools.

It was kind of a pain to capture footage from 6 different camcorders, and while I probably would prefer to mix in Pro Tools anyway, I was a bit nervous about the audio possibly getting out of sync (it didn't -- the bounced file from PT stayed perfectly in sync with the footage)

Anyway, I was wondering if there's any way to record multiple video streams simultaneously in the same project in FCP. Also, I've read several places that FCP can now capture 24 audio streams simultaneously. Is this true? And of so, what is needed to do it?

Video capture is a single stream only. Audio can be multiple streams if you are outfitted with the right input hardware. Go to a pro audio retailer to find out.

As for capturing multiple audio tracks at once, I read about a company that sells a box that you might be interested in....

Once on the Apple site they had an article about a documentary that was made about luthiers. One of the Motu boxes was hooked directly into his laptop so that he could capture 8 (i think) discrete channels of audio. Might work for you, who knows...
