MacBook Pro screen size and FCP question
 

Hi all. . .

I currently have a 17" MacBook Pro and I run FCP on it. However, for mobility reasons, I am interested in buying a 15" MacBook Pro, as well.

My question is this:

While the FCP screens look just like they were tailor-made for the 17" screen, how will they work on the smaller 15" screen? That is, what do I lose in going from the larger 17" screen to the smaller 15" screen?

How is the 17" not mobile?

The 17" is just a bit larger and a just a bit harder to mount on my camera tripod. I was hoping to get the smaller version, IF FCP will still look reasonable. And besides, the 15" is several hundred dollars less!

OK...but you already have the 17", so the fact that the 15" is hundreds less is moot. Because you'll be spending money on it that you normally wouldn't, seeing that you already have a MacBook in your possession.

It should look fine. I use my 15" G4 Powerbook for mobile editing all the time.

I just bought a 17in Macbook Pro with Final Cut installed because the 15in model doesn't offer a 7200RPM hard drive.

Either way, both will work just fine. You just get more visual real estate with the 17in in.

I like the big screen myself, but it's personal preference.

Actually, I am going to stop using the 17" MBP since I'll hand that one off to my daughter. My hope is that I won't miss the extra screen real estate on the 15" since that's the one I'd be running for Scopebox and FCP for my live capture, monitoring, and editing.

Scopebox? It'll be perfect. FCP? A liitle cramped but not bad at all. Edited a number of projects on a 15" MacBook Pro. It worked fine.
