input XL H1 with Fire wire

I'm editing HDV material in Final Cut 5.1.4.

To make the capture in HD with fire wire from a XL H1, every thing is fine, but when I try to make the inverse way I have some problems.

I can only pass the material to my camconder if this is in SD. if I try in HDV, I can only see one frame. For now its ok, because I still can monitor my edition in a canvas or a preview monitor, but I'll need put this film in a HDV tape.

Had some one pass for this problem? Do you know if is a camcoder configuration in FCP? ('I still can't see a Fire Wire HDV output option in my software..)

Hi Rudimar.

Have you tried the option "edit to tape"?

Are you trying to record your movie in the HD format (1980X1080)?
If the aswer is "yes", I think is impossible to to that, since the HDV tape only accepts the 1440X1080 format or smaller formats.

Oi Rudimar.

Vc tentou a opçao "edit to tape?"

Vc está tentando gravar seu filme no formato HD (1980X1080)?
Se a resposta for "sim", eu acho que isso é impossível, já que a fita HDV só grava no formato 1440X1080 ou formatos menores.

I've got the same problem, FCP doesn't output back to the XLH1. What are the alternative options?

Thanks

Also can I output back from FCP to the camera through HD SDI?

Andrea Beck March 3rd, 2007 08:07 AM

Hi Chris,

No. You cannot output back to the camera tape using the HD-SDI.
It is impossible to record true HD on that tape.
That's why we call it HDV. The HDV format is 1440X1080 and 4:2:0.
And the HD format is 1920X1080 and 4:2:2 or 4:4:4.

Your best option is to output back to the tape using the 720p format.

Good lucky.

FCP out to XLH1

So . . .it seems that copying a HDV/FCP timeline (1080i 29.97 YUV 1440 x 1080) is not possible. Is this correct?

If so, what are the options for going from the FCP timeline to the XLH1. Does the FCP timeline have to be in a SD Setup? What are the correct XLH1 settings?

I believe it's "Print to Tape" in Final Cut, isn't it?

Thread moved from Canon XL to Non-Linear Editing on the Mac / FCP.

SDI on the Canon XL H1 is an output only, not an input.

So do you have to go out of an SD timeline?
