dv formats in FCP

Does anyone know what "raw dv" actually mean? Is it the ".dv"?

Since FCP is native QT movie files, would it be able to work with either "raw dv" or ".dv" with no further rendering or enconding process?

It won't work with the .dv files that come from iMovie for sure, you have to render the audio for it to playback in real-time. What I think FCP likes is Quicktime movie files (.mov) that are compressed using the DV/DVCPRO NTSC (or PAL) codec and AIFF audio at 48 KHz. Those work in real-time, and is what you get when you capture dv with FCP. Hope that helps!

Thanks, Nate. I was not sure about if rendering was necessary.

Anyway, do you know if "raw dv" extends for ".dv"?

I don't know if this answers your question completely or not... but when I record "Raw DV" on my Firestore, the file has a .dv extension. So, I would equate the two based on that info. I don't know the real answer though.

Thanks, Webb.

If it records with the .dv extension, I believe the dr60's dvraw means then ".dv". Now i just got to know if Final Cut does or does not recognize that file...

By the way, have you used your FireStore with Final Cut? If you have, how does it work?
