Free-run TC and Final Cut Pro

How does FCP 5.1.4 deal with HDV tapes recorder with free?run TC? Does it treat the gaps as TC breaks? Any problems? Any hints?

I have not used free run TC (although my new camera has it), but I think FCP will handle it. Make sure you set the preferences so that it creates a new clip at TC break. I believe the default setting is to abort at a TC break. If you set it this way, you will get a new clip each recording start/stop.

Er, the gaps are time-code breaks.

If you have selected 'make new clip' on timecode break, it will make a new clip. I'm not entirely sure (as I don't use free run) but you may lose the first couple of seconds of the incoming clip.

I'd use REC run if you can.

Cheers,

Liam.

Thanks. The thing is free run opens a new world: a timecode based workflow with a timecode capable external recorder (Tascam HD-P2, SD 7xx). That's why I ask. I do not have a HDV camera with free run option at hand - would anybody have time to run a short test?
