firewire missing???

Has anyone ever had this message before......"[Missing] FireWire PAL (720x576)" ?. This is a big problem as we can't capture anything. We have contacted Apple but i thought i would see if anyone in DVinfo can help........any info or ideas would be greatly accepted.

We have attached external drives and they light up so power is going down the firewire port, maybe it is an OSX problem?

thanks in advance
Andy.

That message has nothing to do with your drives. It's about a missing tape deck or camera. If you've already loaded your material just hit continue.

Thanks for the reply, im familiar with the message in that context . The problem is that The decks and cams cannot communicate with the mac, the actual firewire port is "missing" the mac won't recognise it. The option we are left with is to re install the operating system and hope that the mac recognises the firewire port.

Firewire Missing

Having consulted our Apple rep, JVC dealer and JVC we have got this far...

Mac Duel 2.5 hooked up to JVC BRHD50 Deck (DV mode) has been working fine in DV mode for over a year via FCP4.5

Going from (Final Cut Studio) FCP4.5 - FCP5.1.4 and Panther - Tiger 10.4.9
the firewire (DV PAL) facility in FCP has become [Missing]

- We established that the firewire port is working...
- Removed FCP and did a re-install with no effect...
- All the usual prefs checked
- Also tried another non controlable device - still no joy
- I Movie won't see the deck or a camera either
- Waiting to talk with a video software engineer Monday / Tuesday to see if there is anything else we can do before doing a complete wipe and re-install of OSX... as usual these things happen at a time when we have a heavy work load.

We had to upgrade to enable our JVC/Focus HD100 drives to work - which they do very well.

Will post how we get on just in case this can be of any help to anyone else who may be unfortunate enough to hit this problem.

Problem Solved - Thanks Boyd

What a relief....

Should have read the post above.... Many Thanks Boyd for posting that article - Removing the QT receipts and re-installing QT has done the trick...

Glad that it's working now. That's a really old thread; I surprised to find that it's still helpful!
