23.98, 29.97 what the heck?

I've got m2v files that I am trying to online in a 23.98 time line. I've been working with 23.98 AIC QT's, and I've created an offline sequence with the following settings:

1280x720
square
23.98
none compression

I go to reconnect my media and the m2v's show up as 29.97! But I know they're 23.98. I open them up in both QT and Mpeg Stream Clip and they both say they're 23.98.

Even if I create a brand new FCP project with the same settings as above and then drag an m2v file into the browser it says its 30fps. What's going on?

Steve,

I assume you've used LumiereHD's workflow with a HD100?

The thing is that although those m2v files do contain 24P footage, they are still in the original format with a 2:3 pulldown.

You should be able to simply render your timeline and FCP will throw away the unused pulldown frames.

Right, exactly, with Lumiere HD.

So, I'll create the uncompressed time line and reconnect all the media to the m2v files and then hit render and then when I bring up the format of the m2v's it should say 23.98?
