Encoding for web output
 

Help! i have spent the better part of the weekend trying to figure out an acceptable workflow for FCP for HD web clips.
I also use adobe CS2 and from premiere when I get ready to export a project to the web I do this ..file>export>adobe media encoder>wm9advanced. I then choose HD72030p and this brings up a menu that allows me to adjust the bitrate and quality output untill I like the file size vs. quality
I cant seem to get anything consistant out with my Mac.
Im trying file>export>using quicktime conversion>(now what?mpeg4 or Quictime movie?)

or should I :file>export>quicktimemovie?

John, one way is - Export/ Using QT conversion/ Select QT/ then hit the option buttons for choices, on size, quality, sound...

Or if you want small choose iPod and call it done.

You can also set up in Compressor certian criteria you prefer and have that saved as your "web setting" each time you want to export out to Compressor.

if you wan tot stay in QT I would sugest the h264 codec. Just tell QT a frame
size that maintains you 16x9 aspect.

The most universal web video would probably be flash video.
Get an app called visual hub ( you can download it)
Export a full res QT out of you NLE then drag that file into visual hub
to create a .flv file that can then be embedded into a web page.

(no affiliation with Visual Hub) we've just found that it does a really good
job of flash compression. It's very reasonably priced and it's fast.

Thanks guys. Im getting a handle on this now. With your advice and the digital juice video I should be good to go. If you have questions about web deleviery this little tutorial is worth its weight in gold
