Firewire capture conflict! Help please!

I am trying to capture from my XL2 with FCP. Whenever I have my 1tb hard drive connected via firewire800 the system has problems and doesn't see the camera or the hard drive properly. The camera and the drive compete for connection, so to say. I connect to USB 2.0 and everything works fine, but I cannot capture to the drive with USB because I run into dropped frames! Please, is there anyway to capture to my hard drive using the firewire 800 instead of USB? I am working on a fully decked out MacBook Pro.

Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Try plugging your camera into your drive or if that's where you have it run now try changing to a different firewire port. I had the same issue with a GL2 and I ended up capturing to my desktop and then pluggin in my drive and copying the footage.
