Desaturation

I'd like to know how to desaturate a video clip incrementally. That is, instead of desaturating to 0%, I'd like to desaturate a clip to 25% or 50%. What I'd like to do is something of what Joe's Plugins do here: http://www.joesfilters.com/joes_simple_saturation.

Is there any way I can do this through FCP without having to purchase a plugin?

You could for example use the 3-way Color Corrector and set your saturation-value there, if I understood your question correctly.

Another way is: effects / video filters / image control / desaturate. Don't buy anything! The filter is sitting there waiting to be used by you.
