which frame size?

I'm encoding 4:3 project to .avi uncompressed for later conversion to .flv for web delivery.

The default frame size for uncompressed avi is 720 x 480, but standard NTSC size is 720 x 486. Does it matter which I use? I've tried both settings and the only difference I see is the dimensions. The quality seems the same, and I can't see distortion of the image either way.

This video includes photos.

I've also tried checking the best setting due to the photos, but really don't see much difference there either.

any thoughts?

Interesting... Not having a background in NTSC I have no technical expertise here. That said, most SD full sized presets use a height of 480 which would lead me to believe that there's a reason why they chose that resolution. It's probably the right one.

I know that the broadcast NTSC signal carries data at the very top of the screen. Ever see NTSC on an underscanned monitor? Ever see the moving black and white bars at the top? As I recollect it contains timing information and perhaps more. That's going to take up a few lines of resolution.

I think 480 is the right number, but I'm a yabo and don't really know much.

Thanks, Tripp. That's what i've been going ahead and doing...it really not an huge issue, just didn't understand it.
