Streaming via FireWire
 

This post could fit in about 3 forums so I'll post it once here.

I was wondering if anyone knew of the existance of software that can stream, in real time, audio and video just like a web cam via FireWire. So, in effect, do the same thing WebCam32 could for example.

I'd rather not use up more PC resources, and money buying another capture card with RCA jacks for this purpose.

I'm going to try the PC forum for some suggestions. Software like this is available for the Mac, so I would guess the PC would have it also.

That is a very good question. I know that lots of webcam software
exists for VfW (Video for Windows) compatible capture boards
and such... But firewire directshow interfaces I haven't heard
of yet. That doesn't mean they aren't there however.

You might try this driver from a Webcam firewire product:

I read somewhere that it also works with any other DV
firewire camera!

My company (www.destiny-software.com) is developing a Java- live video streamer that works on any USB or Firewire connected camera (as well as live TV connection). I've hooked up my XL1S to it a couple times easily.

However, it is not yet a product. :( All you can see now is a live TV feed.

I think you will find that any streaming software is going to take up more PC resources and, to be honest, an all software solution will definitely use up PC resources.

Kieth - The resources I was referring to in my case,m would be using another PCI slot. I try to keep as few hardware items in my case as possible, I have a thing about IRQs :)

Besides, I already have the high speed FireWire, I'd like to be able to use it to it's fullest potential. Also keeps my wallet happy! :)
