camera settings shooting for web?

Just about to shoot my first video for the web (gulp). I've got a sony V1P (Pal). I'm gathering I should be shooting progressive rather than interlaced but are there any other settings I should change to optimise for the web? Have been shooting 1080 50i up to now. Thanks!

You need to know what frame rate you will be displaying in, and shoot at that frame rate. It will make life a lot easier in post production.

Also, you'll need to know the aspect ratio and size of the final video. Let's say you are never going to show it in HD, then there's no point shooting in 1080. You might want to shoot in 720 in this case. You'll also need to know at what bit rate your videos are going to be playing, but with the sony v1, the options might be a tad limited.

Bottom line: Determine your final 'specs', and work backwards to find the most efficient workflow for your needs.

I've got a V1 and I just shoot in progressive mode, particularly if it's going to the web.

But there are some things that will play havoc with your progressive scan mode, such as the display from a data projector. The good news is that you can always shoot in interlaces and have the decomb filter used at the encoder stage (ie Handbrake).

Thanks. Shot progressive. Seems to be OK.

Hi Leonie,

Glad it's working out. It's always good to hear back from people who have posted their problems to the forum.
