Firestore files--Qt & m2t?????

I have a firestore FSC connected to Canon XH A1. Recorded
a few clips in Quicktime and m2t and downloaded to Mac Pro
desktop, but Final Cut Express and Quicktime player will not
open the QT clips. Getting a window in Quicktime player that
says that I need a QT component to open the m2t files. Would
someone be kind enough to help me with this. Thanks.

Probably a quicktime codec issue with your computer. Try downloading the latest drivers and codecs. It also may be that the express version does not support the files, only the studio version. I would ask over in the Final Cut forum....

fce and qt and m2t files

Charles, FCE does not support hd files, but you can shoot in sd and it works well. FCP 6 will support m2t files, but not until you get a plug in from sony that will convert those files, and they are still working on it, as I understand it. I always use qt files, and have not had any problems. The m2t files need a conversion possibly through something called streamclip, a free software program I believe.

Thanks so much for your reply. Since I am new to the video, all of this
conversion stuff is really hard to grasp, plus many more steps in post
production. As you know the Firestore records in QT and m2t. I was
able to open the m2t files with StreamClip, but have not found a way to
open the.mov files. I downloaded the QT MPEG-2 reader in hopes that it
would open the mov files. This didn't work either. I have read that these
files don't work too well with a Mac. I have a Mac Pro and a PC.
Downloaded trial version of Sony Vegas and could open m2t files with it.
Since I prefer shooting in HD so I really need to find out how to open the
.mov and m2t files. Thanks again for your interest.

Any updates on this matter? I'm running into the same issue with FCS2 and Quicktime. Bummer. Apple should add this feature.

Now I am thoroughly confused. OK, I'm fairly new to HD video but here's a quote from the Apple FCE 4 blurb:

Quote:

Easily capture DV and HDV
Capturing DV and HDV footage is as simple as connecting a camcorder to your Mac and keeping an eye on the Capture window to select what you’d like transferred. Preview it full screen on your primary or secondary display whenever you want. Final Cut Express supports both standard-definition DV and high-definition 1080i and 720p HDV.

Work with AVCHD
Now you can edit video captured with the most popular AVCHD devices, using the new Log and Transfer tool to access video recorded to disks, memory cards, or DVDs.* Select the clips you want, then transfer them to Final Cut Express.
I can read the HD files straight off the camera or via tape and edit them in iMovie and FCE.

I can record in mT2 files on my Firestore FS-4ProHD and convert them via MPEG Streamclip to QT files though it does take quite a while for large files.

But like others, I get that silly message about a component missing when I try to record as QT on the FireStore and open the files on my Macs.

Seems to me that it's a problem with the FiresStore and it's QuickTime codec.
