FS-1 "NO DISK" Problem

I recently purchased an FS-1 with version 2.3.3.091103. I attach a FAT32 formatted drive (Hitachi Travelstar E7K60 mounted in a Mapower KC21C1 enclosure with an Oxford chipset) and get the “NO DISK” message. I’ve followed the instructions to format the drive with the FS-1 and the unit continues to display “NO DISK”. I am able to access the drive through the FS-1 in HDD mode on my WinXP machine. So, I know the drive itself is functioning properly. Will a different firmware version possibly fix this?

Hi Mickey,

I am not aware of the FireWire enclosure you have listed and I don't believe it is on the list of drives we have tested. Even though it has an Oxford chipset, as I understand it, in some cases it may not be compatible as it is possible for manufacturers to customize the chips somewhat. Your best bet is to contact Focus tech support at support@focusinfo.com or call 408-370-9963.

Hope that helps,

Thanks Matt. I have discovered, through close inspection, that Mapower doesn't use Oxford chipsets an all of their enclosures even though that's what they claim on the website. They use Genesys on my particular enclosure. Oops.

Mapower HDD Enclosure

Hi Mickey

Have you managed to make your Mapower enclosure work with FS-1. I have Mapower KC31x combo enclosure with Oxford 911+ chipset. FS-1 didn't recognise it until I downgraded the firmware. But now, I'm facing another problem. The recording is distorted with tiny rectangle scattered over the field. Someone, on this forum had similar problem which got sorted out when he switched over to Maxtor external drive. I yet to hear from him exactly what Maxtor external drive he had.

I would like to hear from you whether you had any luck with Mapower enclosure and if so, how did you managed to do it? Many thanks

Regards
Dinesh
