Cineform ConnectHD and VirtualDub

Interestingly, there's a distinct quality difference for any ConnectHD output from Vegas versus identical output from VirtualDub using ConnectHD (no modification, no filter).

Here's a comparison:

Look at the walls in particular.

Also the file size of the vdub clip is smaller. Clearly it is not using the highest quality setting for ConnectHD. Uncompressed looks fine.

Is there any way to change the quality setting vdub uses? Vegas is using higher quality - why isn't vdub? Thanks!

Again, Vdub doesn't have the ability to handle the 601 colorspace. This is why we've examined other methods of frameserving, and why we offer the preset for the Color Matrix in Vegas.

But you see the comparison - colors are identical, but there is splotchiness with the vdub output. Is that due to the colorspace? I am not using the preset in Vegas and am still getting better results than Vdub.

The other problem is vdub gives me a much sharper deinterlace than Vegas' blend fields does. Any other way to deinterlace besides using blend fields?
