New cameras and 1080 p 60fps

After looking at all of the new cameras out there, I have concluded that none meet my particular needs. I definitely need 60 fps for sports recording, and I need hand-held form factor. I also need at least a 14x telephoto capability. I have a HPX-170, which delivers terrific 720 p 60 video, but the next step up will be 1080 p 60. Currently, the only codac that I am aware of that delivers 1080 p 60 is AVCHD, and the only camera out there that comes close to my needs is the Sony NEX-FS100. Unfortunately, the Sony lens for this camera is only 11x, and the bit rate is a fairly low 28 Mbs. I have read that major television players in both the US and in Europe are considering a move to 1080p 60 as the next broadcast standard, so hopefully more cameras will be coming that can record 1080 p 60, but for now we video people probably need to continue with 720 p 60.

Why are you telling us?

Go tell Sony/Panny/Canon/JVC instead.

Dylan - the reason to post here is that some manufacturer's reps actually read these forums from time-to-time. Also, there are other members who might wish to share additional information about these topics. Sorry if you found this to be self-serving on my part.

I'm pretty sure he's Canadian.

Blame Canada...

As well Mark, remember that SHOOTING is only one part of the puzzle piece. Post and delivery have a LONG way to go around 1080P60 material.

I love what I've seen out of the Sony FS100 in terms of 1080P60 and will be adopting that as my "house" format as soon as there is a workable Concept to Completion workflow available to me but until then, I mix 720P60, 1080P30 and 24 in house, as needed.

It gets pretty difficult to make something like a 14X zoom for a camera with a large sensor such as the FS100. You would likely have to deal with using more than one lens.

One option for tighter shots may be this in the near future:

Very good point, Michael, one that I failed to immediately recognize. That Sony lens looks awesome, but at 6.5 lb plus the camera weight, I'll need to head to the gym for ENG-style work. I suspect that I will need a camera with a smaller sensor to get a reasonable 14x or better zoom. The 35 Mbs AVCHD 1080p 60 fps looks like a usable next-gen codac, we just need the camera to go with it.
