AG HVX200 Vs HDR-Z1U Footage
I did a side by side today of the two camera's and have a 30 second clip that is in a quicktiime H.264 800kbps .mov file.
If someone is interested, let me know and I'll email it, or ask Chris if he wants to post it here. Picture quality is similar IMHO, but the P2 workflow might be better. Cheers DBK |

Your comment but the P2 workflow might be better is interesting. Better in what context? Long form? Archiving? Delivery? Reliability? Economies etc. thanks though |
How about the HVX would win on overall skillset: DV 4:3/16:9, DVCPRO25, DVCPRO 50,. 720HD (12-60fps), 1080i/p, timelapse, 10 second pre-record buffer, uncompressed 4 channells of audio, 4:2:2 for quality compositing, and yes... no digitizing.
Sony would be good for a wedding videographer.. but couldn't see it competing for much else.. and cerainly not for any of the extreme sports action video that I do . |
Email me at mochouinard AT m0c.com (mZEROc.com)
I can host the files |
How long have been using the HVX200 for extreme sports?
|
Thanks Darren, if you can send it to me directly by email, I'll host it here at DV Info Net.

Here it is, sorry for the delay... download first, save locally, then re-name ".mox" to ".mov"

This is the first side-by-side footage I've seen of these two cameras and I'll echo that they look more similar than I expected.
Good news, since the HVX is a little out of my price range when you factor in the P2 storage and the personal datacenter the archives would require. |
I can't seem to open that MOV file on my PC. Any chance of coverting it to WMV or DivX?
Does anyone have or know of a Z1 (or FX1) side-by-side with an XL-H1 clip? |
Robert, do you have the latest Quicktime? It should open.
|
Be sure to re-name the file extension first... from ".mox" to ".mov"
|
Sorry it took so long to respond...
This isn't a fair test for either camera; you only get one side of each scene from both cameras. For an accurate side-by-side comparo you'd need to see the exact scene in it's entirety full-frame on both cameras. Renaming the clip works perfectly. |
1280x1080 resolution causing the compressed aspect ratio doesn't help much either.
|
Thanks for posting this. Looks like the HVX200 doesn't suffer from chromatic aberrations like the Z1 does.
Other than that, they are pretty close in this sample. |
I'm sure I am way out of date on the version of Quicktime that I have installed. I really try to avoid Quicktime. Almost everytime I dabble with it, it gives me a headache.
