help fixing broken timecode (hvr z1u)

i have some tapes that need timecode repair. can anyone
point me to a guide for doing so with a hvr-z1u? we also have
a deck, also a sony. tapes are hdv. some are 29.97, some 25
(50i). i tried one pass at it simply firewiring the cam and
deck together but the tc still drops out where the breaks are.
the deck (i dubbed from the cam to the deck) gave a
continuous tc read during recording but glitches at these
points during playback. do i have to use a prestriped tape?

thanks,
BabaG
