High Def in Higher Education Film/Video Programs

Hi All,

I work for a university that is contemplating the move to HD via HDV or DVC PRO HD. Up to this point we've been taking a wait-and-see perspective.

It seems that some of the HDV formats have small wrinkles that make them slightly incompatible with one another, for instance the Sony vs. Canon vs. JVC implementation of 24p (or 24f). It also seems that HDV might be short term with AVCHD looming on the horizon.

We're also wondering about Panasonic's P2 format but the cost of the camera plus hard drive seems to put the cost up, however I suppose there is some savings in not having to purchase decks: you just invest in the Firestore, and the students download their footage before they return the camera.

I'm interested in what others might be doing in the education space.

Thanks,
Andrew.
