MTV HD op and running
Was stepping downward and found LV 16th HD channel, MTV HD -- MHD. Finally, semi-adult MTV and in HD.
Good thing I moved out of my NYC apt. as this is a high volume channel! Some tracks seem to be 5.1 -- others only stereo. Stereo sucks! Unless your NLE does 5.1, better get a new one. You'll never get away with stereo on high-def DVDs. Mitsui HD commercials in HD: 73" 1920x1080p Some 1080i concert video. The film stuff looks "arty" but a bit old fashioned. Sort of like 35mm WW2 movies that inserted 16mm battle scenes. The nice thing is that superwide film (2.35:1) is shown letterboxed. Which reminds me --- ON TOPIC --- 16:9 is really is not wide enough for narrative. Need 2:1 and 2.35:1 markers so one can mask in post. |
16:9 is favoured aspect ratio for Rom-Coms.

So far about half of the MHD films are 2:35:1 and they clearly have far more impact. Now they are showing a non-linear zoomed 4:3 film. My g*d it looks bad! I think you can kiss your SD video "assets" goodby because even film can't be upscaled when it will be seen side-by-side with HD. Amazingly, a super grainy -- faux 16mm or 8mm -- looks great! Which is interesting because the `70s and `80s films which have lots of grain look wonderful on INHD. Maybe my idea of "film" is the texture that grain provides. |
A Rom-Com or Romcom is a Romantic Comedy...
Most aren't very romantic nor very comedic... Punch Drunk Love is about the best in this genre...imho. :) TT |
