Choosing the Right Camera for My Project

Hi Everyone,

I'm at my wits end. I've read and read until I can't read anymore, and I need some input.

The common theme I've read all over this board is that you need to choose a camera based on your project.

After weeks of studying, my two "finalists" in camera choices are the JVC GY-HD110U and the Sony HVR-V1U. My project is to shoot my first low-budget feature-length film. Most scenes are simple dialog indoors, outdoors, during day and night. No car chases, no sporting events, etc.

The excitement surrounding the new Sony is infectious, and the proven-reliability of the JVC seems smart.

DPs and filmmakers: If you were in my shoes right now, which camera would you be leaning towards? Or if the answer is not that simple: How can I better make this decision? I'm stuck!

Thanks!

Well what's your preference, fixed lens with 1080P or full manual lens with 720P? And I assume you've ruled out the Canon XH A1 and the Panasonic HVX.

This whole camera decision thing is just so subjective. You know what, this might get poo poo'd, but if you really can't make up your mind I say just go with the V1. Couple reasons:
Its cheaper. Put the extra savings into a great tripod or microphone.
Its very versatile with the 1080 rez at 24P, 30P and 60i - means its good for all sorts of other gigs.

Good luck!
