Straight forward Thomas - make sure you are in the Transitions folder, open the 2D folder, grab the dissolve icon and drag it onto the clip - it will insert first at the beginning, grab it again, it will insert one at the end. Default is 4 seconds and can be adjusted.

well, now that i'm a bit less stupid, I've got it figured out. I'm using the edius Neo on a laptop, and it seems to be perfect for my same-day-edits at wedding productions.

If you set Dissolve as the default transition, you can apply it with one click, using the icon above the timeline.

also, place cursor in between 2 clips and press Alt+1 or Alt+2 or Alt+3

Alt+1 = 1 second
Alt+2 = 2 seconds
Alt+3 = 3 seconds

Thanks Anton. I'd forgotten about that shortcut, it's actually very useful.
