Best Way to Import, and Best Way to Export

Hello,
I am working on FCP with a XHA1. I was wondering what the best way was to import footage into the computer. The highest resolution, best looking footage possible.
And then, once done editing, I was wondering the best compression settings, either using compressor or FCP, to export video for internet playback at the highest quality possible under 1GB or 500MB. If that isn't possible, then simply the highest quality possible for the lowest amount of data. Thanks!
