jerky footage import

Hi, I just purchased JVC GR-HD1, I shot some footage. I captured it onto my pc and imported it into Premiere. The footage is so jerky I guess because it's mpeg format and the pc must uncompress it. I have a dv camera as well canon Elura 40mc and when I used to import footage into my Premiere, everything was nice and smooth. I am sort of new at this and wanted to find out how can I see and edit the footage to play more smoothly in my edit window. Thanks very much for all the responses

I have
Dual P3 933

Decoding 720p high definition decoding is about 3 times more difficult than decoding standard definition DV. Smooth playback on a single HD stream requires a minimum of a 2Ghz P4. Your dual processor can't help as the MPEG-2 decode will only effectively use one of your CPUs.
