Apple rumor

I've heard through the grapevine, so take it with a grain of salt, but it comes from a friend who I trust. But again, take it with a grain of salt.

We've been hearing this rumor for a while: Apple is/may be developing something to edit HDV/mpeg2-ts, but no one knows if it will be bundled with Final Cut Pro or a standalone solution (like Cinema Tools once was). The new thing I've heard is that it may be coming out, if the first rumor is true, next summer. NAB 2004 may have an announcement about this. It would almost back up the development rumor, but that's not hard to do.

Again, this is just a rumor for now. More when I or anyone else hears about it. The other rumor (Apple is developing something) has been around since NAB 2003.

You will definitely see software/editing announcements at NAB 2004. The "New" HDV cameras will not be released until they are supported by the major software companies (ie Apple). Which I was told is NAB04.
Again, FWIW.

You are right or your friend is.

FCP 4.5 or FCP 5 will support this, as that is the way that Apple is heading with FCP.

If it's 5, I'll "die." I just shelled out $400 Sunday to buy FCP 4. Sigh...

My friend also mentioned Apple wants to do it on their own.

I'm not to sure we should be posting "rumors" on this site. I have limited time (like most others) to check all new posts, so its a bummer to read something that doesn't have much value. Granted, if things were 30-60 days away from possible release...it might warrent a "rumor" post. But, we're 4-6 months away from Apple even announcing support for HDV. Anytime I read rumors I always think "that's how rumors start and grow".

True, but this is little bit more solid, from a source with close ties to many working on HDV products. My source really likes the HDV mini-dv deck, by the way.

Murph, I hate rumors, too, but this one seems to be a little more solid. And that's about all I will say until we hear more solid info. Good point, though.
