HELP D-VHS & Windows pc
 

I got my new JVC HM-DH40000, after trying a few times I've been capable to have the pc recognizing it and using the JVC HD-1 utility I transfer in the two directions HD-1 files to the D-VHS and back.

The problem starts when I edit something and I try to upload it. I did clips using Vegas Video both in 720p and 1080i, I used the default parameters and I gave a try also using AC3 audio (multiplexing A/V with tmpeg) I then used the Japanese utility called PS2TS in order to generate a "Transport Stream" file that according to what I heard is necessary for the D-VHS.
I indeed uploaded the files but it doesn't playback. When it playbacks the screen is blank for about 10 seconds than a message says that can't decode either Audio or Video.

Anybody can help here on how to prepare a file for the D-VHS?

I used the same steps starting from "Then use TMPGENC to convert that AVI Movie into ES..." after exporting an AVI and AC3 from Vegas.

One minor typo, Alex suggested using the "hyffyuv" codec which should read huffyuv, available at http://neuron2.net/www.math.berkeley...g/huffyuv.html

The technique is very similar to mine indeed, worth a try.
Just one thing, is it Womble Editor or VCR? There are two applications, they both seem capable to do the job.

If anybody else has other suggestion, lease let me know !

Womble editor can convert MPEG2 transport streams to transport streams.
Another method is to use VLC which will go from MPEG2 program stream to MPEG2 transport stream (.ts or .m2t)
VLC is available from videolan.org

Start VLC, use the "file" menu, then "open file"
click on the "Browse..." button and find your mpeg, check on the "stream output" check box and then click on the "Settings.." button, make sure the "file" radio button is picked click on the "Browse..." button save the file as whatever you want. Make sure that the "Encapsulation Method" is MPEG TS, leave everything else blank. Click OK, which brings you back a screen, click OK again.
VLC will convert the file to a transport stream in real time.

Your suggestion is pure gold. I took my files, passed them with VLC and here we are, I can upload with D-VHS and play it back!!!

But now telling me, with VLC around why the people spend time with that crappy PS2TS from Japan?

In my case the problem was PS2TS, it is the only thing that I changed in my chain.

It seems that people here succeed in sending back the m2t file to d-vhs by using vlc.

I had followed the method mentioned here. I also succeed in sending the m2t file to d-vhs. But I play back the tape, there is audio drops although picture quality is good.

Do you have the same experience?

What software are you using to produce the MPEG2 program stream?

I import m2t file directly to Vegas 4.0c and edit as usual. And then export the file by the template of 720p 30.

I do the same but do you export back to tape as well?

I don't have any problem importing a TS (like from the JVC tape devices) type of mpeg into Vegas Video. The problem is to export it back into tape. The output of Vegas Video is not TS (Transport Stream) and is not compatible with the JVC D-VHS for example. Do you have different results? and if yes, what is your setting?

Hi Paul,

I try your method and get a fine result. Now, I can export the ts file to hd1 or d-vhs and the play back is ok.

Now, I start to import footage from d-vhs and the source is 1080i. It is hd content broadcast by Japan NHK.

I can import and edit in Vegas. I want to encode it as the original resolution, ie 1080i, and then send it back to jvc 35000 d-vhs.

Can you suggest the settings in the mainconcept encoder?

I have been editing HD on the Mac mostly, I have used Mac tools to export 1080i, I don't have mainconcept so it is hard for me to test, I am sorry that I can't help at the moment, I will look into it further.
