HDV looks squeezed

Help,

I just bought a HX A1s to follow up a pd170 and everything looks squeezed now.
My talent looks shorter and her bum bigger. She s not happy!
I hope it is in either my sequence settings or video settings.
Which ones should I use? There are so many options.

In audio / video setting I use:

seq.preset : HDV1080i50
capt.preset: HDV
device contr. preset: HDV firewire basic

In the "sequence" tab, under settings:
frame size HD 1480x1080 ( aspect ratio)
Compressor HDV 1080p25

I am pretty new to all this so half of it does not mean that much to me .
Did I miss something??

In the camera settings are as follows:

PAL
image size is 1920x 1080
frame rate 25F
comp.out 1080i/576i

It would not be the lens? that's pretty wide and the studio is only small.

There's your problem. Set your NLE to 1920 x 1080 to match your footage. It's thinking you have 1440 wide footage (not 1480) instead of 1920 so it is stretched by 1.333, if I understand your description of the problem.

Thanks Adam,

NLE ? Is that in the sequence tab?
(Excuse my ignorance)
That does not really give me an option of 1920 x 1080,

thanks, Bas

Bas,

Check your camera manual, because HDV is always 1440 x 1080. That is the spec. Your preset in your NLE (non linear editor) is correct. My guess is that your camera settings are incorrect, however that should not influence the image, since capturing is nothing more than digital transfer of data.

Compressor should be set to 50i, not P. First of all, the camera records at 50i on tape, secondly 25P is not a legal export option for Blu Ray. Only 50i is legal.

Make sure that when you select a clip in the project panel and you right click, select interpret footage, that the "Use pixel aspect ratio from file" is on and uses HD anamorphic (1.333).

Bedankt,

I ll try that,
I am not exporting for blu ray but will down-convert to SD at the end of the trip.

The camera gives me two options in ' image size':

LW: 1920x1080 ( selected)
or
SW : 848x480

For frame rate :

50i
or
25F (selected)
