m2t files to avi (mpeg4/mp3)
 

Check out this method.
I converted the m2t files captured directly from my HD10U to small very HIGH QUALITY avi (mpeg4 video and mp3 audio) using mencoder and mplayer (http://mplayerhq.hu)

get this:

version of mplayer and mencoder from:

dump it in the directory where your m2t files are and to encode from command line:

ex:

C:/mencoder crazy00001.m2t -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:vbitrate=4000:vqblur=1:vhq:vqmax=6:vqsquish=1 -o crazy00001.avi -oac lavc mp3

Play around with the settings (bitrates and other parameters). Once the file is encoded you can right click on the file and "Play/Open With" and brows to where you have extracted the mplayer.exe. Window$ media player should also play it.

This is a really awesome method for creating very very HQ (small) mpeg4/mp3 AVIs.

What did you use to capture the stream (was it the included KDDI utility)

It is cool!

A m2t file with 1.37GB size could be encoded as a avi file which is only about 650 MB. Playback by the mplayer is smooth and the quality is good.

But Windows Media Player fails to paly it.

Have to try other settings in the encoder. When is a gui version available?

Try downloading one of those free codec packs - they have like 25 codecs on board...one might work.

No need for the qui, Window$ media player too stupid
 

I guess the gui will come one day, read the manual, it's really awesome how the quantizers, blur, two pass, frame rates, scale (to whatever resolution you want) and many other options can be used. On top of that this thing's fast. Plus it can encode many formats to other formats (although I found mpeg2 to be broken on windows, seems to work ok on Linux)
