Sony HDR-FX1: video editing?
 

The only existing HDV camcorder before Sony (JVC HD10) would provide a proprietary software that allowed to capture MPEG2 Transport Stream files into PC.

What is the situation with Sony?

Adobe, Pinnacle & Canopus have officially announced support for capture and edit of HDV footage for it!!

Sony doesn't need to include clunky free software with this camera as there will be many editing options within a short time.

Ulead made their announcement the same day as Sony announced the camera.

Has their been an announcement about Vegas supporting it yet?
Seems a bit odd that they wouldn't have drivers to support their own camera.

Vegas supports M2T (HDV) editing already, no need for an annoucement. However, native editing will be very slow so many Vegas staffers are recommending Connect HD for Vegas. At IBC Sony is showing Vegas running the Sony footage but using CineForm's Connect HD.

Its nice of ULEAD to offer a plugin for its PRO editor since this is NOT a PRO cam.

Do we know that the HDR-FX1 will output a transport stream like the JVC? According to the HDV specifications that were published when the standard was announced, whereas the 1280x720p format uses a transport stream, the 1440x1080i format uses a "packetized elementary stream." If I remember my MPEG terminology, elementary streams are separate MPEG2 video and audio streams. I wonder why the change? Are transport streams perhaps less efficient? And how does this change affect existing capture apps and editing software? If it's not a transport stream, does this mean downloads to a PC won't be .m2t files but separate .mpv and .mpa files instead? And we might not be able to transfer 1080i HDV to a JVC DVHS...

Yes, we know that the Sony camera uses transport streams like the JVC. And they are 1440x1080 resolution.
