capturing HDV to PC already possible??? inside!

Hi folks:

saw this posted at elsewhere this morning - can someone with FX1 (Kaku?) and PC computer give this app a try and confirm/deny if FX1 HDV can be captured into PC?

Could this be the missing piece of the puzzle for us Vegas dudes?

I will check if I had the time. It's end of the month so I'm fighting with my deadlines for articles.

There was an article published by Adobe saying that they are infact going to support the HDV format in their new updates for Adobe Premiere.

Thats exciting news because it means that the big guys are taking the format seriously.

If anyone has a link to that article, please post for others to read... I'll google it to see if I can find a direct link to it..

The article I saw wasn't published by Adobe but is on one of the DigitalMediaNet group of websites and is an interview by DMN's Charlie White with Adobe Premiere Group Product Manager Richard Townhill. In it, Townhill talks about the new HDV format and Adobe's plans to support it within Premiere Pro 1.5 with wavelet-based compression technology licensed from Cineform that it will offer free to Premiere Pro 1.5 users.
You can read the full interview here:

Bob.. Check the link.. Tried it twice and it couldn't connect to host.

At any rate, I'm going to keep searching for that article.... It may very well be the same one you (bob) are refering to.

'Night all!

(EDIT: Works now! .. Ignore above comment)

but can someone see if this works NOW...

It would be interesting to see if right NOW there's a way to capture HDV to PC so we can at least stutter along in vegas 5b until all the software upgrades come out - Kaku, I know you're busy - can you please try this app out, just see if you can capture to PC using it since you're like the only one in this part of the galaxy who owns a FX1..

We all know stuff is coming eventually - up until now, it seemed the only current solution was to capture to mac using lumiere hd... that's what Kaku has done to get his EXCELLENT footage to us...

So, any good rumours about the pro version lately? :)

Mark,

Donwloaded and connected Fx1 and booted up the app but it does not see the cam.

It seemed like a long shot.... I've tried CapDVHS and a few other capture utilities with the HD10, and they all fail when trying to capture HD.

I'm sure if you set the FX1 to DV the cam would show up as a device in CapDVHS.....but that's not what we're after!!

There's gotta be something out there that'll work at capturing HD from the FX1 to PC.....surely?

Well, maybe VLC might just be able to record the stream to Hard Disk as it plays....worth a shot?

Well, since I can capture footage with LumiereHD on Mac now, I don't really have to look for anything right now and by the time FX1 is available in western world, I would say Adobe will provide the support and Cineform will provide ConnectHD or AspectHD that supports FX1. An update for Vegas 5 might be even faster. Since LumiereHD is already working partially, there should not be so much technical problems.

ten dollars to donuts BlackMagic Design will have a card out very soon exactly for V5.

Jimmy McKenzie October 28th, 2004 03:04 PM

Great! Soon HDV will be crafted upon the countless NLE's across the nation and around the world.

I ready to adopt!

But...

To what distributable medium will I place my work upon?
What device will my clients play this back from?

The bulk of my clients have SD tvs and set top box dvd readers.
