I wish this deck was about $1000 cheaper. I'd love to have one, but I couldn't spend the mone on it knowing that I could have another FX1 for the same price.

It's a nice deck, basically it's just a Z1 without a camera, menus function the same, even the screen is the same. It plays very nicely with FCP express both in and output.

It is very small!

It cost us the same as our DSR 25

so where is that flash type link?

After three years of using my cameras as VTRs, I'm going back to actual VTRs, because it's heck on the heads. I'm sending the HD10 back in to JVC to get fixed.

the Plus to this deck is that it adds Component Ins to the equation.

Component in is only Standard Def. Also the deck doesn't take big DVCAM tape - what were Sony thinking??

I also thought the tape mechanism looked rather camcordery. Still, I think the key thing the deck is missing is SDI. With that in place it would have integrated into anyone's existing HD workflow - without it, and with still no Firewire to SDI converter on the market, it cannot slot directly into existing HD workflows.

Yes but it only costs £1850 UKP what on earth do you expect for that price!

The mechanism is very "camcorder like" because I think it IS a camcorder mechanism, looks like it was lifted straight from the Z1, hence the low price.

I would imagine Sony will have an SDI HDV deck at NAB but it will cost significantly more, after all how much does the cheapest SDI DV deck cost?

I doubt Sony will have a more pro deck coming out. I don't know why they didn't adapt a DSR-11 or DSR-25 type mechanism? When I queried the Sony Canada guy about it, he didn't say anything, but there was a lot of readind between the lines going on, but the one thing I seemed to pick up that was with HDV, that was sort of about it. As for the addition of SDI, I think Sony could do that very affordably if they wanted to, especially when you look how little BMD SDI cards cost these days. I suspect that a) the deck really comes from the consumer side of the company (hence camcorder mechanism and no big tapes) and b) Sony are still trying to avoid errosion of pro sales.

At last NAB they talked about the Miranda Firewire to HD SDI converter for HDV, and I've still not seen real product. With such a box anyone could drop HDV into a pro workflow in about 15 minutes. I wonder why Sony are leaving such a critical component up to a 3rd party?

i do not understand this - you are talking about hvr -M10?

maybe is my english - but is are you saying that M10 has component input?
