The Lacie drives with two actual hard drives inside seem to have a really high failure rate. A lot of folks report their drive failing. I've seen this happen before, although that's just annecdotal evidence.

The Lacie drives with a single hard drive inside are fine.

have a lacie terrabyte ( raid 4 drives) for about 7-8 months and it's running fine ... also have a "ice box" takes 4 drives and its running fine .. i would guess that both have 4x ( or 3X) more of a chance of failing then a 1 drive box ...
BUT now i do have some large files coming in that were telecined HD 1920x1080 24p direct to hard drive .. i do a backup of those clips on external one drive case- just can't take the chance on a raid ... i do edit off the raids.
BUT at approx 465gigs per hour -
between back up and editing it's taking up lots of hard drives ... got to rethink the back ups ? ?
