HDV rendering solutions
 

Hi,

I'm using premiere pro 2.0 to edit my HDV video and i want to know if its quicker to render from m2t clips or from cineform avi files? I dont really want to spend 500$ for cineform since i can do the same job with split files from HDVsplit. The preview window is a bit choppy but i can live with it. I just want to know if its slower for my PC to render from m2t files or from cineform avi files if my main concern is to export to WMV9 or DVD format.

I have a P4 3ghz, 1gig ram, 2 sata 80 gig.

Is there any other software that can convert from m2t to .avi ?

ProCoder from Canopus is able to transcode from m2t to DV (and more).


And there is a free tool for transcode from m2t to DVD MPEG-2 :

On my Athlon X2 4200 (dual-core system), when I ask PPro to export a 5min timeline comprised of Cineform avi files to a 1080i interlaced WMV file (using the Adobe Media Encoder) it takes 53min.

When I pull the exact same footage as a .m2t file into a HDV project, and ask it to export to the exact same WMV file, it takes 65min.

So .... my conclusion is that rendering will indeed take longer from raw HDV footage than from CFHD avi's, however if the rendering task is complex (i.e., to hi-def WMV or H264) the difference in time is not substantial.

I assume the difference will be more obvious when rendering to something 'easy' like DV.

Okay Graham, are you refering to the built in Cineform of PPro 1.51? Or are you using AspectHD? And if so with which version of Premiere?

Those numbers are for Premiere Pro 2.0, with AspectHD 4.0.2 build 53.
