HDV editing on laptop...

Okay, i own a sony A1U and am hoping to begin a project in Brazil this january documenting the massive wealth distribution gap that is causing nearly 34 million brazilians to go hungry daily. While there I am hoping to begin rough cut editing on the film. Seeing as I cant easily lug my editing PC w/ me to Brazil a laptop will be my only option. I am wanting to edit in HD and not down convert BUT... editing in HD (even w/ aspect HD and premiere pro 2) still takes alot of muscle. Seeing as I am on a budget I will need to get the best bang for my buck, does anyone have any experience editing HDV on a laptop w/ premiere pro 1.5 or 2? If so, what are the major obsticles you encountered and what is your machines configuration? Any advice on the best hardware for the cheapest price to get the job done will be wonderful. Thanks in advance for your help!

HDV editing on laptop...

Hi,
I have posted a laptop hdv editing question before. I was advised to wait for intel based to come out in macs. well they're out now and I wonder if anyone has played with the new mac book pro yet and what is the verdict.
I am using an A1P and an HC1 and will be spending a fair while on a boat. There's no room for a desktop.
I have been given a quote for one with 2.16 ghz processor, 2 gig ram and 300 gig external hard drive. Is that sufficient for basic editing in the field ? It would solely be used for editing ie. no e-mail or games etc.
thanks for any advise HH
