Matrox RT.X2 and PC solutions

Hello,
I’ve just bought the Canon H1 (PAL) and looking to upgrade from my SD editing setup. I’ve decided to go with the Matrox RT.X2, I’ve been using the RT.X100. I have a HP PC, 3.2GHz, 2G RAM, but will need to upgrade my graphics card. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good HD graphics card?

I have looked into what graphics cards the Matrox website recommendations but the price varies from $300 - $3000. At the moment I’m thinking the NVIDIA Quadro FX 3000?

Any information would be helpful. Thanks, Scott.

for best results with the RT.X2, go with the Matrox recommendeed motherboards and configurations. They've done a great job updating them and they offer you a good variety of choices. http://www.matrox.com/video/support/rtx2/rec/design.cfm

The top card they recommend is actually the Ati1950 series. If you go with a Quadro, you need to get at least 256 megs of ram on board, 512 is even better. we did a DIY article on graphics cards http://www.videoguys.com/DIY-GPU.html

We recommend the RT.X2 highly, we named it one of our top 10 prodcuts of 2006 http://www.videoguys.com/2006best.htm and we have a very cool user spotlight article on it http://www.videoguys.com/edit1media.html

Thanks for the reply, Could you tell me why there is such a price difference between the cards, if one for $400 (the ATI Radeon X1950 PRO) is sufficient then why do they recommend ones up to $4000 (NVIDIA Quadro FX 5500)?

Sorry just read your attached article. Explained things quite well.

Do you know if the Martox's RT.X2 has the abality to edit the canon's 24f feature, remembering i use the PAL system?

the problem witht he Quadro fx cards is that to get 512megs of RAM, you get into the very expensive cards.

The ati1950 is the go to card for RT.X2 systems. great price and performance.
