What editing sequence (workflow) do you use?
 

I struggle with editing and was wondering if this sequence is considered standard practice, or if other do it differently. If I am missing some steps, please fill in. I use Vegas and work mostly with instructional videos, but I assume the NLE and content wouldn't matter. Thanks.

1. Capture (Duh!) and label clips

2. Rough cuts and assembly of clips

3. Lock audio to video.

4. Normalize audio

5. Add transtions

6. Titles, graphics, and overlays

7. Music

Well, that looks like something that might be called standard. So sure... if it's working for you then it's fine. Frankly, it really depends on the subject matter. For instance perhaps there is a piece of music that you are CERTAIN must be used in the piece. (Opening or closing sequence.) Generally speaking you will want to cut to the music - so the music might be layed in and THEN the clips cut and adjusted to fit - this would move music from your number 7 position up to numer 2 or 3.

Likewise, there might be a graphic sequence, say with pie charts or graphs, that needs to be created before the whole instructional piece makes any sense.

See what I'm getting at? It's the material that typically drives the workflow.
