Portable, protective external hard drives - lacie rugged etc?

Hey,

Hope this is the right forum...

I've just found out I'm going to get to go to SXSW this year and am planning on taking my 5d. I don't want to take my mac b/c I'm going to be able to stay with a friend and use hers, but I do want to take an external hd so I can backup my footage.

I'd like something tough, rugged and portable, small and light but strong basically - and bus powered w/usb 2/3, firewire 400+800 connections for options, esp as I have a Lexar CF reader that I want to use too so need the double firewires.

Does anyone have a suggestion for the external hd I can get? I'm looking at the Lacie rugged ones but am also seeing quite a few horror stories about them too.

Also, lacie do do some at 5400rpm and 7200rpm, is it necessary to get the 7200rpm? I'm not planning on doing editing with the hard drive but you never know, I'd like the option to for the future.

a x

I have the OWC "Mercury on the go" and love it. Tough as heck. Triple interface USB2, Firewire 400/800. I put a Seagate 500G 7200rpm drive in it, or you can buy them with drives already installed.
